The body of crew of a fishing trawler who went missing after falling into river Karnaphuli on Saturday night was recovered yesterday afternoon.
The victim is Md Dulal Mia, 50, of Char Jobbar in Noakhali.
He was crew member in an ocean-going fishing trawler FV Partex-1, police said.
Dulal accidentally fell from his trawler into the river around 10:30pm on Saturday while trying to get on another fishing trawler anchored beside it at the jetty of Bangladesh Fishing Development Corporation on the southern bank of the river, said Akram Ullah, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat River Police Station.
His fellow crewmen tried to rescue him by throwing ropes but he drowned, said the OC adding that divers from the river police, fire service and Coast Guard conducted search operation till Sunday afternoon but could not trace him.
Later, the body was seen floating in the river near Mandir Ghat area under the jurisdiction of Bakalia Police Station around 2km from the site of the accident at 2:00pm today and was recovered, the OC said.
The body was handed over to the family members, he said.
