Leaders of the Gono Odhikar Parishad on Friday at a protest rally in Dhaka said that the Awami League government had failed to control price hikes of essential commodities.

So they have no right to remain in power and should resign from power, they said.

The Dhaka city south unit of the party organised the rally in front of the National Press Club, where its president Nazim Uddin chaired.

President of the party, Nurul Haque Nur, said that the Awami League government had no right to remain in power as they had come to power through a farcical general election held on January 7.

Nurul Haque said that the government had failed to control price hikes of essentials commodities and corruption in the banking sector.

He demanded immediate resignation of the government and taking initiative for holding a free, fair and credible general election.

General secretary of the party Mohammad Rashed Khan said that the day was not far when the government would be compelled to resign from power facing mass movements initiated by the opposition political parties.

Central leaders of the party Abu Hanif, Shakiluzzaman, Biplob Kumar Podder and others spoke at the rally.
