Students, mass people, activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its wing organisations on Saturday night brought out protest processions and short rallies at several places in Dhaka protesting against Awami League for announcing procession marking Noor Hossain Day.

Noor Hossain Day will be observed today commemorating the sacrifice of the young campaigner for democracy Noor Hossain, a motor driver by profession, who was gunned down by the police at Zero Point in Dhaka while participating in a demonstration against the autocratic ruler HM Ershad on November 10, 1987.

BNP’s student wing and youth wing brought out processions vowing to resist Awami League at several places in Dhaka city, including Kalyanpur, Green Road and Kalabagan areas.

A tense situation was prevailing in front of the AL central office at Bangabandhu Avenue as two alleged Awami League supporters were beaten by the BNP activists and handed over to the police.

‘We are securitising whether they are Awami League activists or not,’ Paltan police station sub-inspector Bacchu Mia told New Age.

The BNP student wing Bangladesh Chhatra Dal and youth wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists took positions in and around Bangabandhu Avenue and the AL central office in Gulistan.

Over a hundred people and students took position at Gulistan Zero Point demanding death penalty for ousted prime minister and AL president Sheikh Hasina.

They said that they would not allow the fascist Awami League to hold political programme in the country as Sheikh Hasina killed students and people during the student-led mass uprising.
