A group of muggers snatched a service pistol from an on-duty Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police in Narayanganj city on Monday.

The incident took place around 5:45am near the Nagar Bhaban area on BB Road in Netaiganj. The policeman, Lutfor Rahman, was performing his duties in his police uniform at the time of the incident.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Tasmin Akter, the officer had briefly detached from his team and was travelling on his motorcycle.

"On his way, three muggers intercepted his motorcycle and snatched his service pistol before fleeing the scene," the Additional SP added.

Multiple police teams have been deployed to identify the perpetrators and recover the looted firearm, she said, adding that law enforcement officials are currently reviewing the circumstances of the robbery to bring those involved to justice.
