Filmmaker Abu Shahed Emon-directed Japanese language short film titled Tenement of Secret Talk was screened at the Nasu Short Film Festival in Nasu in Japan on Saturday.
Organised by the Nasu Film Commission, Tenement of Secret Talk, produced by Kyoto Filmmakers Lab as part of the Kyoto Historica International Film Festival 2024, was screened on the opening day of the festival.
The film follows the traditional Japanese Jidaigeki style, which means period dramas that revolve around the lives of samurai, farmers, craftsmen, and merchants in feudal Japan, featuring authentic costumes, historical props, and the open sets of Kyoto’s Shochiku Studio.
Abu Shahed Emon said that making the film with an international crew at Shochiku Studio was an extraordinary experience. ‘I am grateful that the film is reaching Japanese audiences. I am also thankful for the support and guidance of the Kyoto Filmmakers Lab mentors.’
Emon is the first Bangladeshi filmmaker to participate in this international platform as a ‘Director for the Shochiku Team’.
Earlier, the film has been selected for several Japanese film festivals, including the Hokkaido International Film Festival 2024, Tachikawa Meigaza Street Film Festival 2024, and the Japan Visual Grand Prix at The Arts Centre of Tokyo.
Abu Shahed Emon’s debut directorial venture titled Jalaler Galpa has been screened at a good number of international film festivals.
