At least eight people were killed in road accidents in Chattogram, Rajshahi, Faridpur and Meherpur on Monday.

In Rajshahi, three people were killed and two more were injured when a CNG-run three-wheeler collided head-on with a locally-made three-wheeler Nosimon at Bagha upazila in Rajshahi on Monday morning, New Age staff correspondent in the district reported.


The deceased were identified as CNG-run three-wheeler driver Bidhan Chandra Das, 45, a resident of Budhpara village under Bagha upazila in Rajshahi, Shariful Islam, 55, a resident of Fatehpur village, and Rekena Begum, 90, a resident of Andi Salampur village under Lalpur upazila in Natore.

Serajul Haque, officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station, told New Age that the incident took place in Chandipur area on the Bagha–Lalpur regional road at about 7:00am, leaving Bidhan and Shariful dead on the spot.

Reneka Begum later died on his way to the Bagha Upazila Health Complex while the two injured were referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as they were in a critical condition, he said.

The police official added that police seized the two vehicles from the spot and were taking necessary legal steps.

In another accident, three people were killed and around a dozen others injured in a collision between a bus and a motorcycle in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram on Monday evening, the United News of Bangladesh reported.

The deceased were identified as Topu Urang, 22; Nayan, 23; and Uttam Urang, 15. All three were residents of the Hazarikhil area of Harualchhari union in the upazila.

Md Selim, officer-in-charge of Fatikchhari Police Station, said they had so far confirmed three deaths and around 10 to 12 people were injured in the accident. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, he said.

The bus involved in the accident was coming from Manikchhari, the OC added.

In Meherpur, a man was killed and three others, including a child and an infant, were injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Fatepur village of Sadar upazila here the morning, according to a Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha report.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannaf, 55, son of Asad Ali of Kamdebpur village in the upazila.

Abdul Mannaf died on the spot, while three passengers were seriously injured.

Officer-in-charge of Meherpur Sadar Police Station Humayun Kabir confirmed the incident.

Moreover, a minor girl was killed in a road accident at Shyamsunderpur in Faridpur town in the morning, the BSS reported.

The deceased was identified as Maysa, 4, daughter of Mahfuz, a resident of the locality.

The police said Maysa, while playing near her home, suddenly ran onto the paved road in front of her house. Suddenly an engine-driven van hit the girl, leaving her seriously injured.

Family members rushed her to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead, according to the BSS report.

Additional superintendent of police (Sadar Circle) Azmir Hossain confirmed the matter.
