Both Shakib and Afridi have 39 wickets, but Shakib played six matches less

Star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan emerged as the joint highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history.

Shakib now shares the top spot in the list with former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi.

Shakib in the process reached yet another milestone in his glorious international career during Bangladesh’s last Group B game in the qualifying round of the T20 World Cup against Papua New Guinea at Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Muscat Thursday.

Shakib achieved the landmark in the 11th over of PNG's innings after he removed Hiri Hiri.

The PNG batsman while trying to slog sweep got a top-edge to give an easy catch to wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan.

Shakib bagged four wickets conceding just nine runs in his quota of four overs and now has 39 wickets under his belt in 28 T20 World Cup matches.

Shakib’s bowling figure in the game is also his best figure in the world event.

Pakistan legend Afridi took 34 T20 World Cup games to take the same number of wickets.

Shakib earlier in the game contributed with the bat too after Bangladesh batted first upon winning the toss.

The left-handed batsman struck a 37-ball 46, laced with three over boundaries, to propel Bangladesh to 181 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

Bangladesh secured an 84-run win against PNG and moved into the Super 12 stage of the event.

Bangladesh made a scary start to the event, losing to Scotland in their first game by six runs.
