A Juba Dal leader died under treatment on Wednesday, five days after he was stabbed during a clash with the activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Hazaribagh in the capital on November 15.
The deceased is Ziauddin Zia, 40, former vice-president of Hazaribagh unit BNP’s youth front Jatiyatababdi Juba Dal.
Confirming the matter, Hazaribagh police station officer-in-charge Saiful Islam said that there was a dispute between Zia and some Chhadra Dal activists of the area, leading to a clash on November 15.
He could not confirm the reason behind the dispute.
‘Zia was stabbed with sharp weapons during the clash. Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday,’ he said.
A case was filed with the police station regarding the incident, he said, adding that no one was arrested yet as of Wednesday evening.
The deceased’s brother-in-law Mohammad Jamil Uddin said that Zia was on his way home from an event on November 15 when eight to 10 people, including some Chhatra Dal activists, attacked him with sharp weapons at the BNP office in the area.
‘He was severely injured in the attack and admitted at DMCH, where he died after five days,’ he added.
DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Faruk said that Zia died in the intensive care unit of the hospital at about 4:00am.
