Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, former professor of Chittagong University's (CU) economics department, is set to visit the university after 36 years.

He will attend CU's 5th convocation on May 14, where he will be awarded an honourary Doctor of Letters (D Litt) degree.

The announcement was made in a press release signed by the Chief Adviser's Principal Secretary, M Siraj Uddin Mia, yesterday afternoon.

According to sources, Yunus will not only receive the degree but also deliver the convocation speech. He is also expected to inaugurate several key projects at the university.

Dr Enayet Ullah Patwari, convocation member secretary and controller of examinations at CU, told The Daily Star, "The chief adviser has confirmed his attendance at the convocation. We are making all necessary preparations for his visit. Further details will be shared after our upcoming meeting."

CU's special convocation is going to be held after nine years.

Yunus joined CU's Economics Department as an associate professor in 1972 and later served as its head. He was promoted to professor in 1975 and remained in the position until 1989. Additionally, he previously served as president of the Chattogram University Teachers' Association.
