Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said that his party proposed to keep the existing preamble of the constitution as it is.
He said this after submitting BNP’s reforms-related opinion to National Consensus Commission at LD Hall of Jatiya Sangsad in Dhaka.
Criticising the constitution reform commission-recommended preamble that kept the history of the 1971 Independence War and the 2024 July Uprising in a single part, Salahuddin suggested a separate chapter to glorify the July Uprising.
He also said that most of the recommended reforms in electoral system require constitutional amendment, thus, should leave them for the next elected parliament.
‘We think the authorities concern to NID and delimitation should be kept under the Election Commission,’ he said.
He added that BNP doesn’t support constituent assembly.
The consensus commission’s vice-chairman Professor Ali Riaz, among other members and officials were present at the event.
