Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Prof Ali Riaz, today said that by resolving differences through dialogue and reaching consensus where possible, a national charter can be formulated.

"Through this charter, the nation can move toward the long-desired goal of state reform," he said.

He made these remarks this morning at the beginning of a dialogue with the National Democratic Movement (NDM) held at the LD Hall of the National Parliament.

Prof Riaz further said that their main objective is to reach the point of forming a national charter as swiftly as possible.

The commission's term will expire in mid-July, so they hope to conclude the initial discussions by mid-May and then proceed to the next phase.

Referring to the initial stage of dialogue as the beginning of discussions, Prof Riaz said, "We may engage in dialogue in phases. We will consider how we can come to a common ground."

Eight members of the NDM, led by the party's chairman Bobby Hajjaj, participated in the discussion.

Bobby Hajjaj said that the NDM agrees with most aspects of the National Consensus Commission's proposal, and they want to view the reforms in a broader context.
