The leaders of Ganatantra Mancha on Monday called on the interim government to take immediate steps to control abnormal price hikes of the essential commodities.
Mancha organised the rally at Purana Platan crossing in Dhaka where Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq chaired.
Referring to the comment of president Mohammed Shahabuddin regarding the resignation of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Saiful Huq said the issue of the resignation was not that important as she fled the country in the face a student-led mass movement.
Saiful Huq said that the syndicates of Sheikh Hasina regime are still controlling the markets and they were responsible for the abnormal price hikes of some essential commodities.
As a result, the ordinary people were suffering much to procure essentials with the fixed income, Saiful Huq said.
He called on the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus to break the syndicates immediately and reduce price hikes of the essential commodities.
Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu said that the people of the country are eagerly waiting to see success of the interim government and democratic transition of power.
But it would be hampered if the interim government failed to control the abnormal price hikes of the essential commodities, Sheikh Rafiqul Islam said.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD senior vice president Tania Rob called on the interim government to withdraw the decision of the cancellation of the order of observation of March 2, 3 and 7 as national day.
She said that these days were part of making ground of liberation war of 1971.
Nagarik Oikya general secretary Shahidulla Kaisar said that the interim government should announce next general elections holding some reforms without holding delay.
Ganosamhati Andoan central leader Monir Uddin Pappu said that the people wanted to see implementation of spirits of recent movement by students and people.
Rastra Sanskar Andolan central leader Didarul Bhuiyan also spoke at the rally.
