The South Asian Football Federation's executive committee has appointed Mr. Purushottam Kattel as the General Secretary of the federation following the resignation of Mr. Anwarul Huq, said a press release from SAFF.
Mr. Huq, who held the position since 2015, resigned from the post citing his personal reasons.
An expert in governance issue, Mr. Kattel will begin his tenure effective from 1 April 2025. Before assuming the responsibilities at SAFF, Mr. Kattel was the Head of Unit of South Asia at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) where he served for 17 long years.
Mr. Kattel, a Nepalese nationality, comes in with a wealth of experience. From handling governance issues as an International Relations Manager to lending his services to the competition department handing various competitions around Asia, his repertoire speaks volumes for his passion for the game.
"I am extremely delighted to join SAFF as the General Secretary. This is a big opportunity as well as a challenge for me. I have observed South Asia closely ever since I started my career in football. This region is a challenging region but at the same time, it's a growing region and there are lots of opportunities and I am confident that the future of this region is bright.
"I thank the President of the federation Mr. Kaji Salahuddin and the Executive Committee members for entrusting me in this role. I am also thankful to Mr. Anwarul Huq for his wonderful contribution to football in South Asia. His service to football is truly remarkable," said Mr. Kattel.
