Reaffirming BNP's commitment to reforms, a key leader of the party said the National Consensus Commission's spreadsheet had been "misleading" and created "unnecessary confusion" about the party's intentions.

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, who had stepped out of the party's meeting with the consensus commission, told waiting journalists, "We are engaging in discussions with the commission point by point."

Salahuddin said the BNP remains committed to structural reforms and is holding detailed dialogues with the commission to reach a common understanding.

"BNP is serious about reforms. That's why we're actively discussing with the commission to build consensus," he said.

He noted that discussions cover a wide range of issues, ranging from the preamble to the fundamental state principles, and aim to find solutions that serve the national interest.

He added that many proposals were not included in the spreadsheet, and there are differences between what was presented in the spreadsheet and what appears in the detailed proposals of the party.

"We are trying to reach a consensus after reviewing the core proposals of the commission. Only reforms that truly benefit the nation will be considered," he added.

Addressing concerns over the judiciary-related proposals, Salahuddin claimed that BNP had been misled by the version of the commission's proposals sent to the party.

"Our judicial reform proposals, including those on judicial appointments, have been mischaracterised. We want reforms, but they must be carried out through constitutional processes," he explained.

"BNP wants judicial independence, but the process must adhere to constitutional guidelines," he reiterated.
