Leaders of the Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation at a press conference on Saturday demanded security for theatre shows.

They also said that they did not want to embarrass the interim government regarding security issues and that they would not rehabilitate any collaborator who supported the killings during the student-led mass uprising by the past fascist government. 

The BGTF organised the press conference at the seminar hall of the national theatre at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Programme secretary of the BGTF Khandokar Shah Alam delivered the welcome speech while the BGTF secretary general Kamal Bayazid read the written speech from the platform regarding the disruption of a protest rally by unidentified miscreants in front of the BSA on Friday.

They demand security for theatre shows, Kamal Bayazid said, adding that the chief adviser of the interim government, the cultural affairs ministry and the BSA should ensure security of cultural practice.

‘The government should take steps if there were any allegations of criminal offences against any theatre artists. The BGTF will not rehabilitate any collaborator who supports the killings during the student-led mass uprising by the past fascist government,’ said Kamal, adding that a mob could not disrupt any cultural events.

Kamal Bayazid also called for a discussion with all stakeholders to ensure security in cultural practice.

‘If the protesters came formally, the BGTF agreed to discuss any issues with the cultural affairs ministry and the BSA for improving the security for cultural events,’ Kamal said.

If the situation is not improved, the BGTF will take decisions about the cultural events on November 15.

Theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal postponed their theatre show due to security concerns on Saturday.
