Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, has officially opened its first Indian office in Bengaluru.
The company announced the opening alongside a series of partnerships across enterprise, education, agriculture, and public sector domains. According to Anthropic, India is the second-largest market for Claude.ai, with nearly half of all usage involving computer and mathematical tasks such as building applications and shipping production software.
Anthropic says it is working to improve AI performance in Indian languages by curating higher-quality training data in ten widely spoken languages. Among its announced collaborations, the company is partnering with Indian startup Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project to build evaluations testing performance on locally relevant tasks in agriculture and law. It is also working with India-based nonprofits including Digital Green and Adalat AI.
