The National Citizen Party (NCP) temporarily relieved its joint member-secretary, Gazi Salauddin Tanvir, of all organisational responsibilities following allegations of involvement in commission-based business and unlawful interference in the appointment of deputy commissioners (DCs).
A notice issued by the party today said, "In a report published by The Daily Inqilab on March 11, allegations were raised against you regarding illegal interference in the appointment of DCs and involvement in commission-based business relating to paper procurement for textbooks under the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB)."
The development came a day after the NCP formed a 12-member disciplinary committee to uphold internal ethics and enforce organisational discipline, in line with a resolution adopted at its third general meeting on April 19.
The notice, signed by NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Member-Secretary Akhter Hossen, also directed Tanvir to submit an explanation within seven days, stating why he should not be permanently expelled from the party.
"Tanvir has been relieved of all party duties for defying earlier verbal warnings and in the interest of maintaining organisational discipline, pending the disciplinary committee's final report," the statement added.
