A Sylhet court today acquitted all 11 accused, including a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), in the murder case of Kazi Habibur Rahman, who was stabbed to death on January 19, 2016.

Mominunnesa, additional metropolitan sessions judge of Sylhet, delivered the verdict in presence of eight accused, said Nur-e Alam Siraji, public prosecutor of the court.

The other accused are Awal Ahmed, Ashik Uddin, Mainul Islam, Jubayer Ahmed, Nahid Hasan, Ilias Ahmed, Nayan Roy, Bashir Uddin Ahmed, Shahidur Rahman and Alaur Rahman.

According to the case statement, Habib (24), a student of Sylhet International University, was hacked to death in front of the university campus during a BCL factional clash.

The next day, Habib's brother Kazi Jakir filed a case with Kotwali Police station where Sagar and others were made accused after analysing CCTV footage and evidence.

The prosecutor said, "10 witnesses including the plaintiff testified in the court and due to lack of eye witnesses to the murder, the charge against the accused could not be proven in the court."

The trial of the case started on September 9, 2018 after charge framing against the accused. So far, 10 out of 21 witnesses testified before the court.
