Vehicles are moving slowly in the 30 kilometres area on Dhaka-Tangail highway due to heavy rush today.

Although there was no mentionable rush last night, pressure of vehicles increased early today on the highway -- stretching from Bangabandhu Bridge's eastern side to Natiapara of Tangail's Mirzapur upazila -- causing sufferings to the commuters, especially elderly people and children.

Hundreds of passengers were seen waiting on the highway on Korotia bypass, Ashikpur bypass, Rabna bypass and Elenga.

Many people got off the vehicles and started for their destinations on foot, reports our Tangail correspondent.

Mosharraf Hossain, who was travelling to Gaibandha, said he started from Dhaka's Malibagh around 9:00pm yesterday and managed to reach Tangail bypass in 12 hours.

Another passenger, who started from Dhaka around 5:00am today, only reached Kaliakoir of Gazipur due to the tailback. Usually, he reaches his village home in Tangail in two hours, he said.

Heavy pressure of vehicles and few small road accidents are the reason behind this traffic congestion, said Yasir Arafat, in-charge of Elenga highway police outpost.

There is rush of vehicles but those are moving slowly, he said.
