A total of 37 accused were placed on a three-day remand each over vandalism and setting fire to Hindu homes, shops and businesses and for arson attacks on Hindu temples and looting their valuables at Rangpur's Pirganj upazila on October 17 over a reported incident of 'demeaning of Holy Quran' at Cumilla during the Durga Puja.

Two cases were filed with Pirganj Police Station over the mayhem.

Judge Fazle Elahi Khan granted a three-day remand for the 37 accused when Mahabubar Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Pirganj Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case placed  a total of 38 accused before the court with seven-day remand prayer each, reports our Rangpur correspondent quoting Shahidul Islam, general register officer (GRO) of the court.

The court sent the one other accused to juvenile court as he was below 18, said the GRO.
