Bangladesh national football team players paid tribute to late footballer Badal Roy by observing a one minute silence before the start of their second day’s training session at the Al Aziziyah Boutique ground in Doha, Qatar on Monday.

Former national team footballer Badal died of prolonged illness at a Dhaka hospital on Sunday.

‘We all the players are in shock after hearing the news last night [Sunday] about Badal Da. We observed a minute silence to mourn his death,’ said midfielder and former national team captain Mamunul Islam.

Apart from on-field training, footballers underwent a gym session at the Aspire Football Academy and went through multi-stage fitness tests under their fitness coach Ivan Razlog.

‘The beep test is more reliable here…Looking at the assessment, players are very happy. Now we will speak to the coaches on programme for progress we need,’ Razlog told media.

Bangladesh, who are now in Qatar for their 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint Qualifier second-leg match against the hosts on December 4, are set to take on amateur side Qatar Army on November 25 in their first warm-up match.

They will play second division side Lusail Sports Club on November 28 in the second and final practice match.

Bangladesh national team footballers left for Qatar on November 19 and remained in three-day mandatory quarantine and did their first practice session under assistant coach Stuart Watkiss on Sunday.
