Speakers, including writers and journalists, at a discussion said on Tuesday that they had to remove fascism from the society as it was a negative system.
They also said that although the fascist Sheikh Hasina government stepped down, its supporters and followers of the fascism still remained in the society.
The Reading Club Trust organised the 532nd discussion titled Public Lecture at RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium at Dhaka University in association with Adorn Books, a publication house.
The discussion on the Siraz Uddin Sathi’s book titled Fascibad Otit O Bartaman Bharat Bangladesh Prekkhapat which was presided over by Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq.
Planning editor of Bangla daily Samakal Faruk Wasif, political analyst-journalist Ashraf Kaiser and Siraz Uddin Sathi were present as discussants while editor and publisher of Adorn Books Syed Zakir Hussain delivered welcome speech at the event.
‘The mentality of the people of our society is helpful for fascism. If we demand removing fascism from the society everyone has to take decision in this regard,’ said Syed Zakir Hussain.
Faruk Wasif said that after the student-led mass uprising everyone was not talking about the spirit of the uprising, which reflected in some recent controversy.
‘Democracy, modernism and fascism are the same in nature because of their popularity. Extreme-idealism is the cause of failure of revolution which can create extreme-fascism also. We have to concentrate our efforts on building the state for all,’ he said.
‘Fascism is a negative system of any state because it attempts to assert total control over the lives of its citizens. India is a partner of Bangladesh in establishing fascism. Sheikh Hasina falls after 15 years in power and flees to India. But we have to fight against fascism,’ said Siraz Uddin Sathi.
‘We have to remember roles of civil society in favour of the fascists. We have to know the Sheikh Hasina syndrome. We must be aware of the fascism,’ said Ashraf Kaiser.
The event also included an open question and answer session while speakers mentioned that not only the voting rights of the people but also everyone’s place in the society must be ensured, which is the precondition of democracy.
