Leaders of the Democratic Rights Committee on Friday at a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar said that a Bangladesh free from discriminations has yet to be established.
They said that the overthrow of the fascist Sheikh Hasina-led regime on August 5 brought opportunities for establishing a democratic country, calling on the interim government to work to establish a discrimination free Bangladesh.
Calling on the interim government to establish people’s rights, the organisation on the day organised a short rally at Central Shaheed Minar with its central member Anu Muhammad in chair and after that held a march up to Bahadur Shah Park.
Economist and former professor of Jahangirnagar University Anu Muhammad vowed that the Democratic Rights Committee would continue its movement till people’s rights were achieved.
Calling on the government to take immediate steps to stop sectarian attacks on the minority communities, he announced that a team from the organisation’s central committee would soon visit Chattogram areas where sectarian attacks were perpetrated against the religious minorities.
Central leaders of the committee former student leaders Baki Billah and Salman Siddiqui also spoke at the rally.
The march towards Bahadur Shah Park in old Dhaka ended with another short rally at the park.
