Legendary footballer Enayetur Rahman Khan, also a proud member of Swadhin Bangla Football team, returned to Bangladesh after 27 years this morning in a quest to receive the certificate of freedom fighter.
Former national footballer Gaffar Chowdhury and others received Enayetur with a bouquet at the Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Even though Kazi Salahuddin is still considered as the top striker the country has ever produced, many deem Enayetur superior to Salahuddin, considering the dribbling skills and powerful shooting in his repertoire.
Enayetur was the one to strike Bangladesh's first goal in their international debut in 1973, where the Men in Red and Green played out a 2-2 draw in Mardeka Cup against Thailand. He had been a regular player of the national side before calling time in 1978.
"I returned home after a long gap and it is a different feeling. Those who fought for the country and played football, they can't stay away from the country. A man has to do many things in life's quest and that's why I have been aboard," Enayetur told the reporters at the airport.
Enayetur, who played for Victoria SC, BIDC, WAPDA, BJMC and Mohammedan SC, will stay here for two months before returning to Canada.
