Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party will observe the golden jubilee of the country’s independence next year.

BNP standing committee member and the convener of the party’s central committee to observe the golden jubilee of the country’s independence Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain made the announcement at a press conference at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office in Dhaka on Sunday.

The spirits of independence war have been destroyed and the country has lost its democratic system, Mosharraf said.

‘The main theme of the golden jubilee celebration programmes will be the revival of the spirits of independence war,’ Mosharraf said.

He also said that the party would hold various types of programmes throughout the year 2021 marking the victory of Bangladesh in 1971 war.

The programmes will include essay and art competitions, publication of books, rallies, discussion meetings and processions.

The first meeting of the observance committee was held on Saturday through videoconferencing and the meeting was presided over by BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

BNP formed a 115-member golden jubilee observance committee in October.
