Bangladesh recorded the lowest temperature of the current winter season on Tuesday as a cold wave swept across 10 districts, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The season’s lowest temperature of 7°C was recorded in Rajshahi where the maximum temperature stood at 18.7°C on the day, the BMD said.
Earlier, the lowest temperature of the season had been recorded at 7.5°C in Gopalganj on December 31.
The meteorological office forecast that temperatures may fall further on Thursday as cold conditions persist.
On Tuesday, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 26.5°C in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar, while the lowest temperature there was 11.6°C.
In the capital Dhaka, the minimum temperature was recorded at 13.2°C, while the maximum reached 20.2°C, the BMD said.
BMD officer Sharif Newaz Kabir said that so far this is the lowest this year but not abnormally. In winter temperature fall more that this in Bangladesh.
According to the BMD forecast, a mild to moderate cold wave is currently sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Rangamati, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia, and it may continue.
The BMD also warned that moderate to thick fog may form across the country during the late night to morning hours and, in some areas, may persist until noon.
Such foggy conditions could temporarily disrupt air navigation, inland river transport and road communication, the department said.
