An engineer of the Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh was killed on Friday after a speeding Raida Paribahan bus ran over him near the under-construction project site of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Deceased Md Moidul Islam Siddiqui, 36, was a senior sub-assistant engineer who had been working with the CAAB since 2012, said its spokesperson deputy director Mohammad Sohel Kamruzzaman.


The accident occurred at about 10:00am between the Dhaka Elevated Expressway and the third terminal construction site.

Airport Police Station sub-inspector Suman Chandra Das said that the bus veered through parts of the fence made of corrugated iron sheet at the construction site before crushing the engineer.

 ‘At that time, Moidul Islam was riding his motorcycle on the road inside the fence. He was crushed under the bus after it hit his motorcycle, leaving him seriously injured,’ he said.

Moidul was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead, sub-inspector Suman said.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he said.

‘The bus was seized but the driver and helper fled the scene.’
